Toyota Camry that pulls left? We can fix this!
Common Problem!
Toyota Camry,Aurion,Avalon,Corolla and Kluger all suffer from the dreaded pull-left.
Here's why.
1.As vehicles get a little older the front lower control arm bushes become too soft and compliant.
2.The left side of a vehicle on Australian roads is always the 1st side to cop pot-hole hits, gutter hits and rough driveways.
This fatigues the standard control arm bushes to a point where the left wheel ends up sitting back half of a degree
3.Australian roads have very pronounced camber (angle) towards the left or gutter for drainage, other countries roads don't have any where near this sort of angle on the road.
4.Toyota's vehicle platforms are designed for both right and left-hand drive. They set the front suspension up without what is called a "castor split".
A castor split is where a vehicle is set up with more castor on one side of the vehicle. In Australia it is beneficial to have between .30 to 1 degree of castor split to counter the road camber.
There is no adjustment for castor in the majority of Toyota's passenger cars in Australia.
How we can fix this
1.New Lower control arm bushes.
The front lower inner control arm bushes are replaced with Australian made Superpro polyurethane heavy duty items. Either single or double-offset depending on the severity of the castor problem. The Superpro bushes are a longer life upgrade over the original rubber items.
2.Camber Adjustment kit
The Superpro camber adjustment kit allows for further fine tuning of the camber during the alignment, It also gives ease of alignment correction for the cars future life
3. Hunter Roadforce Balance
A vehicles wheels and tyres CAN have an affect on the vehicles handling.
Called "radial-pull", results can be had by changing the position of each wheel and tyre in order of "radial roll-out"
A feature exclusive to the Roadforce machine, it measures the radial (up and down) movement of each wheel and tyre and determines the optimum position for each wheel and tyre on the vehicle depending on it's handling characteristic.
3. 4 Wheel Alignment
To thoroughly dial in the front and rear toe angels and new camber adjusters, a 4 wheel alignment is performed with a comprehensive report provided
4. What is it worth?
Here is the breakdown of the work and cost:
Superpro Front inner lower control arm bushe kit $34.00
Superpro Control arm rearward bush in single or
double offset kit $220.00
Superpro Front camber alignment kit $85.00
3 hours workshop labour @ $85 per hour $255.00
1 Wheel alignment $55.00
+ FREE Roadforce Balancing and pressure check
TOTAL $649.00
*please note that the steering rack mount bushing commonly need replacing too. This adds $148.00 for parts and labour.
